UK Sport, the organisation which backs Olympic and Paralympic athletes in their quest for medal success, held its annual World Class Performance Conference (WCPC) at the Hilton Deansgate Manchester last month. In line with one of the event’s key themes of ‘collaboration’, Saville AV – which has worked in partnership with UK Sport for 14 years – delivered full audio-visual support for the conference, ensuring it was a gold-medal winning occasion.
Bringing together some of the UK’s most respected sport coaches, sport science and medicine practitioners, managers and athletes, the packed three-day programme comprised a series of plenaries and gala dinners, as well as breakout sessions focusing on key topics. Gatherings were led by inspirational sports people including England Football Manager, Gareth Southgate and rowing gold medallist, Dame Katherine Grainger, with ‘The World’s Greatest Living Explorer’, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, the keynote for one of the gala dinner.
Working in partnership with UK Sport and its branding agency, Thomas Miller, planning for the event started months in advance, scoping the venue and ensuring all visual equipment complemented the impressive graphics. To help make the branding ‘pop’, Saville installed a 6m x 3.5m Absen LED wall panel in the main room, together with 10k projectors which displayed a mix of video content and live footage. Haze machines and LED pointe lighting helped transition the main room from day to night.
For the first time at the conference, UK Sport tapped into Saville Digital Event Services, with a bespoke digital guest registration platform developed for speedy check-in. Emoji feedback stations were also installed across the venue, providing instant delegate reaction to both the keynote and breakout sessions.
Adam Greaves, Coaching Team Coordinator at UK Sport, explained: “We’re absolutely delighted with the initial feedback from this year’s event and it certainly lived up to expectations. We have worked with the Saville team for 14 years and the collaborative element is a key part of the partnership’s success. We find that when everyone works together, we create the best delegate experience and people keep coming back year-on-year. Saville’s top class, top quality service and all the work that goes into the preparation and event itself, shouldn’t be taken for granted.”
We have a fantastic relationship with the UK Sport team and working on this event is always great fun. The conference welcomes high performance delegates who have exceptional expectations, so naturally the event must be delivered to the highest standard and we were proud of the feedback our team received. Working closely with UK Sport means we can identify solutions that can improve delegate experience such as our bespoke emoji feedback of which initial feedback has been fantastic, with the client commenting on almost 100% response ratings for some sessions.Vicki Fennell
